Scholarship Search

As every college student knows, whether you are and undergraduate or graduate level student, the cost of an eduaction these days is daunting!  But there is help in the form of scholarships.  It can be a time consuming and frustrating process to search though the masses of scholarships out there and applying to as many as possible but it is worht the effort.  I wanted to pass on some scholarhsip resources I have encoutnered and thought would be helpful to others.

1.  Financial Aid Podcast – this podcast is online and on iTunes but their website has some excellent resources including some free e-books about scholarships and finding money for school be sure to go to www.financialaidpodcast.com they post new podcasts on Fridays.  Their podcasts are short and entertaining they even have a sectionabout free stuff companies are giving away!

2.  www.scholarshippoints.com – At this site you can earn free scholarship points by reading financial aid articles and then apply those points towards monthly drawings for $1,000 to $10,000 scholarships and its free so why not; no need to write any essays don’t pass this opportunity up!

3.  www.fastweb.com – This website is a scholarship search engine which can find a massive almost intimidating amount of scholarships for you to search through.

4.  www.studentscholarshipsearch.com – Again another scholarship search site this one is hosted by the same group that does the financial aid podcast.

5.  www.google.com – Utilize google by searching for scholarships and get creative with your wording; get the free e-book at the financial aid podcast for more about using google.

When applying for your scholarships remember to pay attention to the details and deadlines.  Also start a notebook or excel document that lists the scholarships you have found and applied to including the name of the scholarship, the deadline, and when it is awarded.  Finally, always save the essays you write for each scholarship you might be able to reuse part of all of them for other scholarships.  When I find other scholarships or resources I think will be helpful I will be sure to post them and remember to be careful of scams that ask for you to dish out money no legitimate scholarship will ask for that.

I want to reccomend a couple pyschology podcasts that can be found online as well as in iTunes.  I enjoy listening to both and they are hosted by the same clinical psychologist – Dr. David Van Nuys.  Hey you gotta have some fun and some down time once in a while right so why not listen in!

1.  Shrink Rap Radio – www.shrinkrapradio.com

2.  Wise Counsel – www.mentalhelp.net/poc/view_index.php?idx=119&w=9

Both shows have geuasts that are in the field of psychology, social work, and counseling but the Wise Counsel show is more focused for the professional or serious psychology student where anyone could listen to Shink Rap Radio and take something away from it.  I really enjoy learning about the different therapy techniques, school of psychology, and basically what ever topic the guest has to offer.  His guests are professionals in their field whether they are researchers, therapists, authors, or professors.  Every once in a while I will comment about his shows and provide links to those specific episodes in case you want to check them out for yourself.  But in the meantime be sure to check out the shows and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do let me know.  Hey maybe once I get into the swing of things I can attempt a podcast of some sort – a little scary I’m not that technically inclined and this is my first blog so that idea is a little frightening :)

Hello world!

Welcome to my Little Psych blog :)

Here I will be sharing my experiences at graduate school along with interesting psychology facts and resources I stumble upon on the way.  I will also throw in a tale or two about the craziness of my cats which I know sounds pretty dull but they will put a smile on your face!  So come on back soon and check out my blogging debut.

If you want to drop me a note or have a topic you would like me to discuss my e-mail is littlepsych@me.com

The Cone of Shame

Alright so I said I would share some crazy cat stories once in a while just for fun.  My youngest kitten “Baby” was spayed last week and it has not fazed her at all!  I cannot keep her still for five seconds – well her nickname is “Wiggles.”  So the crazy little one decided to jump onto the refrigerator, then back down, and finally topped it off with a wrestling match with my other kitten “Waffles” before I could stop her and she pulled a couple stitches.  So she had to return to the vet for a couple staples and has been subjected to wearing the smallest cone I have ever seen.  Well she decided that it was not going to stop her and she ran full throttle towards the windowsill only to have the front of her cone smack into the window and she fell over onto the floor.  Well even that didn’t stop her lol.  She proceeded to scoop her favorite toy up in her cone using it like a shovel and she would swing her head fast and toss the toy then go over to it and repeat until finally she tuckered herself out :)  Hope you enjoyed the first of the Cat Chronicles.

You can see some pictures of the “cone of shame” along with photos of my other crazy critters at my mobile me gallery

textbooks…

Well the cost of college textbooks is highway robbery and I’m sure anyone that knows a college student can agree with that.  Even with the advent of e-books which I’m not fond well for textbooks anyway (love love love my Kindle for everyday reading) the price of textbooks just seems to be getting higher.  By the way if you have a Kindle and are a college student utilize the document delivery service if you have a lot of articles or research to read.  I have been transferring my text and pdf files of research articles to my Kindle so I can take them on the go and make use of every spare minute I have.  Although I love my Kindle for that feature I am not a big fan of textbooks in e-book formats.  I love to have the book in hand and smell the pages lol I know I’m a little wierd but each book has their own smell plus when I am conducting research I like to spread all my sources out and not have to flip from screen to screen on the computer.  Well if I get into using my Kindle a lot I will have to figure out the APA format option for citing from it – fun stuff I know.

Ok so now I have to get a shameless plug in here for my online store – I can always use more sales to help pay for ridiculously priced textbooks – I make handcrafted jewelry and handbag check out my one of a kind items at http://tinybeadsny.etsy.com
